An Investigation of the Protection of Privacy in the Corpus of the Qur’an and Sunnah

Abstract

Islam is a comprehensive and complete religion that provides teachings and guidance for all aspects of human life. It emphasizes the observance of human rights, one of the most important of which is the right to privacy. Privacy refers to the domain in which any intrusion by others provokes a personal reaction, or to matters that an individual will rise to defend and protect resolutely. The aim of this research is to explain the nature of privacy and to examine its protection from the perspective of the Quran and Sunnah. This study is written using an analytical-descriptive method and is based on library research. The results show that the term "privacy" is not explicitly mentioned in the Quran and Sunnah, but its instances and concepts exist, and there is an emphasis on safeguarding privacy. Factors such as spying, intrusion into beliefs, spreading immorality, eavesdropping, and betrayal of trust, which violate individuals' privacy, are strictly prohibited. However, in cases such as the government's right to supervise, national security issues, and the upbringing of children, intrusion into privacy is permissible.
